PADDED DENIM JACKET
2021-2022 - 472901 - $440ReleasedBackground: The Padded Denim Jacket was first officially shown in the YGEBB Lookbook posted by Ye and The Gap. The looks are modeled by Bilal Cudjoe. (The Black version would be used in the Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga Chapter 1 Ad)
The Padded Denim Jacket was based on Johan Galaxy’s Personal Giali Padded Denim Jacket, which Ye wore in Paris on 10/14/2021, and some days later in Berlin, where Demna and his design team would extend the sleeve length, adding more material to the top of them and removing the Giali logo. It would then later be further customized heavily, distressing it, and adding more material to the shoulders and sides to give it more length and width (Originally had some alterations by Johan).
Ye then wore it during the last half of the Free Larry Hoover Benefit Concert on 12/09/2021. During this time, the Jacket would become a part of YGEBB as it was originally not a part of the Collection.
The retail version featured major changes from the lookbook/sample versions that were based on Giali's Jacket. Gap changed the fit of the jacket entirely—removing the cropped length, the elongated sleeves, and reducing the heavy distressing, making the fit a bit more similar to the customized version of the Giali Jacket Ye wore at the Free Larry Hoover Benefit Concert. Despite these changes, there were also many differences between the retail versions themselves, including padding thickness, distressing style, and wash/color.
USA Blue: Features less thicker padding than the China version and includes a layer underneath the distressing.
China Blue: Features thicker padding and a slight layer underneath the distressing.
USA Black: Features less thicker padding than the China version, includes a layer underneath the distressing, and has a different wash, more of a Blackish Grey Wash. (This version would be used in the Unreleased Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga Chapter 2 Ad)
China Black (Grey Wash): Features thicker padding, a slight layer underneath the distressing, and a grey wash.
During the collaboration, marketing samples with unique washes were sent out to multiple celebrities, specific ones were Quavo and Takeoff, who went on to use them for their "Only Built for Infinity Links" album cover. Many other celebrities would wear the jacket as well, such as Dua Lipa, and even a year after Yeezy Gap’s termination, The Weeknd and Chance the Rapper.
The retail version would then be shown in a lookbook shot by Raphael Bliss and styled by Betsy Johnson in Tokyo, Japan, shot on 08/19/2022, and was posted by Gap on 09/22/2022.
The first Stock Images resemble the lookbook version and were never officially used. The 2nd version of the Stock Images extends the length of the Jacket closer to the altered Giali Jacket and was used on yeezygap.com for its initial release on 02/23/2022. The 3rd version is an accurate Stock Image of the Retail version and was updated to this on 05/27/2022. Retail Male Model Images are modeled by Victor Ogonna Ndigwe.
The Black colorway and a Restock of the Blue were planned for the jacket at the end of 2022, but Black USA and China, as well as Blue Made in China, did not officially release due to the Termination and shutdown of yeezygap.com.
