YZY PODS (Pods Sock Shoe)

Background: Designed by Ye, Steven Smith, Randall Yarborough, Jelani/@shoeperserve, @ffeeks on Instagram, and Jesse Giacomo, the YZY PODS was Yeezy's first piece of footwear released after the end of their collaboration with adidas. Ye originally was working on a Sock Shoe for Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga, but after the termination of Yeezy Gap, he dropped the project for a while. Throughout 2023, Ye would be spotted wearing multiple sock shoes, one being an initial prototype without a proper outsole, and another of these being Black Sand Socks. After a few months, Ye would wear his own version on 09/21/2023 in Florence, Italy with Bianca Censori. He'd then proceed to wear them over the months, on 10/28/2023 in Saudi Arabia with J-Prince and John Monopoly, he'd start wearing a version with a brown outsole. On 12/11/2023, Yeezy Supply would come back with a few items for a couple of minutes, one of those items being the pods, originally priced at $100. It'd be taken down, but would come back on 12/15/2023 and would be priced at $200 and made in Italy. In the following months, the pods would be a controversial product with shipping and sizing problems. Though on 02/11/2024, Ye decided to drop everything on yeezy.com to $20. (Customers who had originally bought for $200 would be refunded their $180) These pairs would now be made in China, though there isn't much of a difference between Italian and Chinese pairs. In a podcast with @Kanyesposts on Instagram, Steven Smith said the pods are split into 2 outsoles for natural motion, and that the upper is a technical knit. Today, the pods/PD-01 are still available on yeezy.com and are one of the critical products responsible for Yeezy's comeback after their fallout with Adidas and Gap.
