Background: The Red Wing 3049 was first worn by Ye during the Free Hoover Benefit Concert and then for around 2 months straight. During this time, Balenciaga used it as a reference for the BOG BT, with a pair stripped down and being used in fittings and for the lookbook for Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga (Before editing). The Boot also served as a reference for a Concept Boot Ye and his Adidas team were working on, but never finished. Red Wing Amsterdam acknowledged Ye's wearing of the Boot on their blog. Red Wing stopped producing this style in 2016.
